Final Project Milestone One Draft of Introduction.docx PSY 444 Final Project Milestone One Draft of Introduction Southern New Hampshire University PSY 444 Introduction For my final project I chose to research the topic of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) of parents who have lost a child. More times than it should, a child passes before their parents do. Whether it be natural causes, health concerns, or intentional. No parent should ever have to endure the feeling of losing a child. It is one of the cruelest emotion a human being has to face. Speaking from experience I have lost my son at 10 days old. A bereaved parent is the most prone to health conditions such as PTSD, depression, distress emotionally, and can sometimes, sadly, lead to suicide. For this research paper, PTSD is the focus. I want to understand how like veterans, who serve over seas and face hardships and see things that no human should lay a naked eye on, a parent who watches their child pass is even more cruel and how PTSD can emerge for some. As we look at several research studies that examine different aspects of parental bereavement such as marital issues that arise, suicide and drug use, post-traumatic growth (PTG), and religious response to death it all ties into the many cause and effects a parent can have when a child pass. We want to look at how PTSD is involved in a parent™s life and how this affects them moving forward from their child passing.
